Anywhere else it would be gourmet; in Italy it's just the grocery store

Thanks to all the wonderful local fresh fruit and veggies here, it's easy to eat low calorie. That is, until you get to the grocery store and see all the wonderful food there!

I snagged such goodies at the Italian grocery hypermarket today!

Eating low cal's going to be kinda tough... ☺

In Bologna the greens were called Barba di Negus, I have never forgotten them, and like fava beans, snag them whenever I spy them outside their home region...

Internet consensus seems to be that one should boil the agretti until al dente, and season them with salt and pepper and maybe a bit of oil and vinegar. Did the bolognesi eat them differently??

Michelle, you might eat more low calories if you had put more "fresh fruit and veggies" in your cestino. You actually seem to have avoided fruit and veggies in your shopping :-)

That's what the agretti, the eggplant pesto, the figs, the radicchio sauce, and the bagna cauda (served with veggies) is for! :-) Since I have to take a boat and then a bus to get to the hypermarket, I only shop for things not readily available "sotto casa" there. Instead, I get daily all my fresh fruits and veggies from the fruttivendoli in my street in Venice which sell mostly local stuff. Fear not, though... My goodies will last me the whole summer since I don't plan to schlep back to the hypermarket soon!

Dove vai? A Panorama? Lì c'è un autobus mentre non ho trovato un collegamento da Venezia ad Auchan (o a Marcon).
