Seems that Venice is going to replace its famous "Palazzo del Cinema," home of the annual Venice Film Festival on the Lido barrier island of the Venetian Lagoon.
The modernist masterpiece (pictured above) was built between 1937-38 and designed by Luigi Quagliata.
According to ANSA.it, the Veneto region has apparently approved the construction of a new complex for the film festival in the precincts of island's relatively recently closed hospital, the Ospedale al Mare.
Too bad, considering that they've also closed Venice's former summer casino on the Lido, right next to the current Palazzo del Cinema, and it would have been perfect for expanding the venue. Right now, it largely stands unused...
