This website (whose motto is "stuff + cats = awesome") may go a long way toward explaining why today in America dogs are outnumbered by cats as pets. I read recently that there are just 70 million pet dogs as opposed to some 90 million pet cats.
Of course, what they don't tell you is that those cats are owned by only 10 million people. :-)
